J.A. (Jerry) Ballarotto graduated from Loyola College of Maryland in 1971. At the age of 23, he entered the United States Secret Service as a special agent in the Newark, New Jersey Field Office. He was among the first group of new, college educated special agents, without prior law enforcement experience, that were hired by the Secret Service. Also included in this group were some of the earliest minorities commissioned as special agents, including the first two female special agents commissioned by any federal law enforcement agency. It was a time of change and turmoil in the Secret Service and America.

After leaving the Secret Service, Mr.Ballarotto attended Seton Hall University Law School where he graduated with honors and joined the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office. In order to gain experience as a trial attorney, he joined the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and later became an Assistant United States Attorney. He completed his career in public service as Chief of Criminal Prosecutions in the Trenton, New Jersey office.

Since 1987, Mr. Ballarotto has been a criminal defense attorney with offices in both Trenton, New Jersey and Key West, Florida. He continues to assume responsibility for protecting the rights of those wrongfully accused throughout the United States. He was recently named one of Mercer's 50 Most Interesting People by the Hamiltonian.

This book is dedicated to the men and women on both sides of the criminal justice system, who fight the good fight to protect and defend the constitution every day of their professional and personal lives.
